Full Surface Hinge

I’ve been writing a lot about fire doors lately, and specifically about what bad condition many existing fire doors are in.  The codes have always required fire doors to be kept in good working order, but with the specific requirement for the annual inspection of fire doors it will hopefully bring more of these deficiencies to light.

I received these photos yesterday…a “full surface” hinge with a slight modification.  Yes, this is a fire door.  And NO, it’s not code-compliant!  I’ll give Mr. Fix-It an E for Effort, though.

Thank you to Gary Bambara and Tim of Vulcan Lock for the photos.  (They were NOT responsible for this installation!)

half surface hinges could have fixed this. not sure how long those wood blocks will hold the hinge on in the event of a fire.

I notice the absence of a closer, (fire doors must be self closing!!!!!) appears a competitor’s closer was once here then got removed.(broke or worn out)
