I’ve published quite a few past posts on iDigHardware related to holiday door decorations, so by now you probably all know that doors in a means of egress have to be readily distinguishable as doors, can’t be hidden by decorations, murals, etc., and that there are extra limitations if the doors are fire rated.
The door in today’s Wordless Wednesday post has a few issues, but my attention is drawn to the red bow that looks like it’s holding the touchpad in the dogged position. I don’t think it’s a fire door so it’s not going to keep me awake tonight…just an observation. I wonder if it’s part of the school’s lockdown strategy.
Anyway…I’ll be taking a couple of days off to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family, but before I go I want to say that I’m thankful for your participation in iDigHardware. I feel blessed to be able to connect with thousands of people, to provide information but also to learn from the insight that many of you share here. I can see a difference over the last 20ish years in how codes impact our industry and in the level of understanding and expertise related to the code requirements.
The increased focus on code compliance of door openings improves the safety of building occupants – ensuring life safety, fire protection, and accessibility. So thank you for your attention and the willingness to share your experience. I’m thankful for you!
Happy Thanksgiving!
