Actually, I’ve been here all along – writing a new post each weekday! Several iDH subscribers have asked me whether they had been cut from the list because they were not receiving their email notifications. The answer is NO! I would never cut you from the list because you retired or because you don’t visit often enough! There was a problem with the notification system and it took collaboration from a dedicated group of people to get it resolved.
If you’re like me, you need that daily or weekly reminder to go and see what’s new in the world of door-related code requirements. Since you haven’t been receiving it, here are a few things you might have missed:
- I’m doing a code update and participating on a panel at next week’s DHI conference, AND – there’s an opportunity for you to watch the documentary 6 Locked Doors!
- I asked for your feedback on a new type of privacy set, designed to make restroom doors more “hands-free.”
- I told you about a change to the IBC that allows mechanical locking of some egress doors in health care facilities.
- I posted a real-world example of how to determine which hardware would be code-compliant on exits serving an assembly occupancy.
- I published my next Decoded article (the upcoming issue is the 10th anniversary of my column!), which addresses a change in the opening force and operable force requirements.
- I shared a short video on the annual fire door inspection requirements from the Steel Door Institute (SDI).
And of course, you can review any Wordless Wednesday or Fixed-it Friday photos you may have missed.
Hopefully, all subscribers will be back to receiving the email notifications. If you are not currently a subscriber, you can choose to receive notifications daily or weekly…there is an orange button in the right sidebar that says “sign up here“.
Next, we’ll be working on adding the subscribers who have asked to subscribe while downloading the Code Reference Guide, registering to create a library of favorite posts, or attending a live webinar or recording. So if you suddenly start receiving notifications, it’s because you asked to be added sometime in the past. You can unsubscribe at any time.
If you still don’t receive your email notifications, check your junk, spam, or clutter folder.
Thanks for your patience!

HIYA! I was one who was not receiving your emails… but have now received them again beginning yesterday. Thanks!
