This emergency exit serves a large retail store, which was open for business when my coworker took the photo. When he mentioned it to two different employees, they said they have brought it up with the manager, but the decision was “above their pay grade.”
WWYD?

What a shame. Nobody should leave a 4041 without its cover.
I hope all the fools saying ‘above my pay grid’ can prove in writing they informed those above. At best, it shares the civil liability. Criminal consequences are not several.
I still do not think they have met the required minimum number of devices on a door!!!!
The fire marshal works at a pay grade a lot higher than the manager. And, the manager will lose a lot of his bonus for sales when the store is closed down by the fire marshal.
Yes it’s a bit missing from the door as there is no double deadbolt and mag lock not connected to the fire alarm but it is above our pay grade level to judge:-)
This happens even in Canada

Nothing a pair of bolt cutters and the local recycle yard can’t fix. I need a hobby in my coming retirement, this might be fun.
Yet another example that the powers that be just don’t get it … It’s a constant struggle between insurance companies and life safety. One wants security the other free and clear egress.. and they never seem to be on the right track .
So that’s what they mean by “panic” hardware?
