These Wordless Wednesday photos, from Geno Markette of Yates and Felts, are not just your run-of-the-mill padlocked-gate photos. The panic hardware is a Von Duprin Chexit, designed to delay egress for 15 seconds. Someone obviously went to a lot of trouble and expense to install this hardware, but the padlocked gate defeats the purpose.
This is exactly why I am not in favor of allowing non-code-compliant security methods “after hours.” Inevitably the padlocks/gates/creative devices end up secured while the building is occupied, and could also impede firefighter egress if a fire occurs when the building is not occupied.

Is it all brand new??
Is that blue protective plastic on the panic hardware??
Or just never used panic hardware, because you cannot get to it.
Hi Charles –
I don’t know how long the panic hardware has been there, but the blue plastic is to protect the touchpad.

At least the mannequin appears to be wearing PPE.
The Chexit is missing the signage.
You’re right! Good eye!

Considering the mannequin is displaying industrial supplies, looks like this is just a hardware exhibit, and they kept the blue plastic on the chexit so it can still be sold as new.
That’s actually an ALK, not a CX. Unless the design has changed since I retired.
I think the design did change…the cut sheet doesn’t show the plastic piece around the cylinder now.
