I have spent the last 30+ years teaching about the code requirements related to doors and hardware.  Although I’ve had thousands of people in my classes, they are typically from the same pool of door and hardware professionals, architects, end users, and AHJs.

While I treasure this very loyal audience, I recently had the opportunity to speak to a group that I would normally never connect with – escape room owners, designers, and enthusiasts.  If you have ever tried to talk about doors and hardware at a party, you can imagine my concerns.  Would their eyes glaze over when I used unfamiliar terms?  Would they put me on mute 5 minutes into my session?

When I conducted my session at the RECON Reality Escape Room Convention, I was very pleasantly surprised by the response of the attendees.  They were excited and engaged, they asked great questions and were very thankful for the information I shared.  Several people followed up with me after the conference to ask questions about their specific situations.

I feel so grateful to be able to positively affect the safety of escape rooms worldwide, and to help AHJs who have escape rooms in their jurisdictions.  You can view my presentation on YouTube, and there are more resources on the Escape Rooms page of iDigHardware.

Thank you to the RECON team for letting me share my talk here!
