Cesar Montalvo of Wesco sent me today’s Wordless Wednesday photo, taken in the heavy equipment bay of a military facility. Each vertical rod device has 5 rod extensions, to accommodate the 18-foot doors! My favorite line from Cesar’s email: “As an added bonus, there are some LCN 4040XP closers that are installed on these doors. I was impressed by how smoothly the closers were operating the doors.” 🙂

Well
1. Guess they are not rated fire doors.
2. Why panic hardware?
3. Would love to see a video of a person pushing on the panic hardware, and opening the door!!
4. Than there is the other side, where a person has to pull on the door!!!
Anyway. Great photos keep coming to you to post!!
Have you written your book yet??? “” Have you seen this Door or Hardware”””.
Nice coffee table picture book.
Hi Charles –
The book is still “on the list.” 🙂

Monorail doors are always oversized. This is a bit too high. But a well done door specially when the exit device operates smoothly with 5 jointed extension rods, and the 4040XP closing and latching the door. I am sure this door will need very regular maintenance to keep it this way. Of course this opening may not need to meet any life safety or fire codes.
Lori,
Something must have happened to my account. Can you please add me ( or show me how to do it) so I get your weekly emails. Thanks
Hi Kevin –
Someone else said that but then the emails showed up for him without me changing anything. Did you check your spam/junk/clutter folders? We are making some changes so there could be some interruptions, but I received my notification on Friday. If you think you unsubscribed somehow, you can re-subscribe here: https://us.allegion.com/en/newsletters/idighardware_newsletter.html. Let me know if you don’t get an email this week on Friday.

Now those are some huge door leafs.
Be interested what was used for hinges, continuous?
I’ve installed similar doors for mono rails, but only 14 foot tall, pair 9 ft lowers (active/inactive) and 5 ft uppers, inactive, only when needed (every 10 years?) Exterior out swing.
I give the credit as well to the hanging devices on these doors with PARALLEL ARM (less closing force compared to the REG/TJ) mounted door closer. Proper hanged door gives ease to the closing and latching actions of the door. An ideal combination of the correct hanging device, proper installation of the opening assembly, closing, and latching device considering the other factors like exterior pressure, regular preventive maintenance, and others…
