Tim Weller of Allegion sent me today’s Wordless Wednesday photos of an obstructed means of egress in a liquor store (we called them “packies” in New England). I’m at a loss as to how to educate retail workers on the code requirements. Any ideas?

Gather the staff together and tell them that you’ll pay $20 to whoever gets through that door first, and then turn out the lights.
Oooh… I like this idea! However, the Owner and manager have to get involved so that there is consistency. Turnover rate in retail is far too high.
One Sunday, while shopping at an overstock store, I took a picture of the blocked exit and drove it right over to the nearby fire station. The LT. took a picture of my picture, and went over that afternoon to enlighten them.
NICE!

Prohibition???
By the way, if you haven’t noticed, the 18th Amendment (Prohibition) is written similarly to the 8th Amendment (Cruel and Unusual Punishment). Coincidence?
