Joe Cross of Allegion sent me the Fixed-it Friday photo below of an “electrified” removable mullion, which is definitely not a listed application. Von Duprin offers several removable mullions wired for monitor strikes and electric strikes, and these mullions can be used with the KR – keyed removable feature that allows the mullion to be removed with a key rather than by removing screws.
You can find more information about Von Duprin’s removable mullions in the auxiliary hardware section of the catalog.
- Here’s a WWYD? question about removable mullions, with some helpful comments.
- Another WWYD? question addressed the topic of hollow metal removable mullions.
- And yet another WWYD? question covered removable mullions on fire door assemblies.
And if you’re not familiar with removable mullions, here’s a video! Happy Friday, everyone!

Perhaps it is a “HIGH SECURITY” Mullion and that cable is for the security switch hidden inside, in case someone tries to steal the mullion. SMDH
The struggle is real on this product, the way the cable connects is very hard to manage. Its a poor design, I of course would never condone this kind of modification. Though I have modified one of ours as I got tired of attending every week to fix a mangled wire. Its been going for years now with no issues. VD needs to do some engineering work on this product.
