Today’s Fixed-it Friday photos were taken by Andrew Stein of Claflen Associates Architects + Planners. They illustrate just how easy it is to defeat an egress door in the name of security. And what do y’all think about the painted exit alarms? OK, or NO WAY?

While it’s a code violation that’s an old trick we would use at the shop to prevent people from breaking in and stealing our tools by backing the truck up to the doors.
The inspector in Las Vegas came back to finish his job and found the maintenance crew had painted th exit alarms and he red taged the job until. I could get them replaced.
Not sure about the truck,.
I was thinking what is wrong with this photo…. until I saw the second photo.
well… it is kinda a serial killer van…..
I seem to recall that’s why so many died in the Tyson chicken factory fire.
Exits were blocked by trucks.
🙁
I hope the car is in neutral…
Regarding the Detex Exit alarms, since they have a very distinct shape, maybe there can be a case made to allow painting over them.
Are you sure this wasn’t supposed to be a wordless Wednesday, because I truly just face palmed at this. Then I thought… did they forget to cover the exit sign up above after a renovation, or is this really they are just trying to get away with something? If so, why not just fill the door?
I know…I thought about saving it for Wednesday!

I guess it’s not much different than 32D exits on stainless steel doors. I’ve done more than a couple of those.
How about this one?
