Last week I wrote about a fire in a Queens apartment building, where an open apartment entrance door allowed a fire to spread.  FDNY shared the video below, which shows some of the interior of the building after the fire that left more than 200 people homeless.  I still maintain that the commissioner should be reminding landlords of the impending deadline to make sure apartment doors are self-closing, rather than (or in addition to) reminding people to close the door to limit the spread of fire.

Although this fire did not result in any fatalities, more than 100 families have been displaced and are facing the possibility of being sent to shelters once their placements in hotels end next week.  The outcome might have been different if the apartment where the fire started had a self-closing door, as required by NYC Local Law 111.  The deadline for compliance is July 31, 2021.
