Gabe Montoya of Jansen Supply sent me today’s Wordless Wednesday photo of a grocery store exit with a few issues. I just love imagining you guys and gals spotting a door with a problem and thinking, “I need to take a picture for Lori!” Keep them coming! 😀

Is that an alarm siren box dangling? With the extra length wire it almost looks like a half install or replacement and just got left there. Maybe my favorite reasoning; “parts are on order”?
Not to mention the NEC code violation with the exposed electrical junction box
Well I am impressed. At least if you get shocked and knocked out, they will pick you up the same day. and it is free 🙂
At least they have a check sheet for each door!!!
That follow NFPA 80
I have seen this before. If you look closely at the junction box, you will see that it is covered by a sounder. My guess is that someone went out the door and caused an alarm. The sounder when off and no one had the key or knowledge to turn it off. Next best thing…. cut the wires!
I also have a question as to whats up with the conduit connection to the exit sign. I would bet the exit sign powers the exit alarm. If it does.. that’s a code problem.
It looks like the conduit you’re seeing goes up BEHIND the exit sign. The exit sign is served by its own conduit from the top of the sign, it’s painted the same color as the wall so it’s easy to miss.
Not only is the exit blocked, it’s blocked with flammable items stored in the exit corridor. Note the stack of boxes with the Flammable 3 placard, topped by a bucket of ABHR.
AND THE DOOR FRAME SHOULD OF HAD A 4″ FACE HEADER SO THE BLOCK GUYS DO NOT HAVE TO CUT THE BLOCKS GOING ACROSS THE HEADER
ONLY A DOOR GEEK WOULD NOTICE THIS….
