Do not, I repeat – DO NOT – try this at home.
You may remember a fire in Grenfell Tower in London, back in 2017. During the investigation, it was determined that the fire doors did not perform as required. This led to decisions to replace thousands of fire doors in residential buildings. Much of this work has not been completed, so a man living in one residential block decided to take matters into his own hands to prove a point. #wordless

Not a good way to make friends with your neighbors, but at least people are starting to pay attention to how fire doors can save lives in high-rise apartments. It is unbelievable that there is a sign that says “fire door keep shut” on a door with no latching hardware.
Good for him…be the change you wish to see in the world.
It looks like Mr. Crocher’s experiment forced the smoke underneath the door, which isn’t a realistic simulation. NFPA and UL standards don’t worry about that gap at all. This test doesn’t demonstrate anything dangerous.
Hard to believe with today’s global access the so called fire hallway doors have no positive latching hardware .
