One of my original goals when I started this blog in 2009, was to make learning about codes less painful. I think these whiteboard animation videos do just that! Here’s the latest…all about fire door assemblies!
Note: Although the video references the limit of 1-inch diameter holes for job-site preparation of fire doors, this was changed in the 2016 edition of NFPA 80. There is more information about the change in this post. In addition, the video states that deadbolts may not be installed on fire doors, but in limited locations, listed deadbolts may be installed on fire doors along with positive-latching hardware. Refer to this Decoded article for more information about deadbolts.
The rest of our whiteboard animation videos can be found on the Allegion Training page, or on the Videos page of iDigHardware.com.

Nice
I can use the video as a check list during inspections.
And, don’t have to email my life line!!!
I have a couple different checklists, so if there’s something that would help you, let me know and I’ll customize one for you!
Thanks, it is just the little things that come up once a year.
Like how much gap can there be between two doors.
If they are not there on this site, maybe add a link to the forms you have?
Gracias
Maybe what I could do is set up a page on my site with a checklist / list of reminders that you could access on a smart phone, with separate sections for fire doors, egress, accessibility, and electrified hardware? What do you think?
Excellent idea.
plus one !
That would be great!
Lori, I don’t know how we would get by without you! 🙂
P.S. – Another great whiteboard video!
Si –
That is what I was trying to say
Gracias
Lori: Your suggestion and offer would be appreciated
Thanks
AWESOME video! I cannot wait to share this with my workgroup! Nice job again Lori!
I’m glad you like it! Our training dept. is responsible for getting the videos created…I’m just the “subject matter expert.” 🙂
Suggestion for future video – Flush Bolts and Coordinators
I love it when I can make dreams come true. I’m basically the fairy godmother of doors. 🙂
Here you go! http://idighardware.com/2015/07/flush-bolts-and-coordinators-video/
Lori,
Is there a way I can download this video as a file?
I would like to be able to later add subtitles (in Korean) for our clients, and I’d need a file in order to do so.
Thanks, as always!
P.S. Just curious but does the artist in the whiteboard videos work for us?
Hi Tony – I forwarded your question to Peter Wilson. The artist does not work directly for us – we work with another company to product the videos. – Lori
These white board videos are so good visually that one tends to miss out on the audio.
I’m interested in a video or pictures showing the different re-enforcements that are added by manufacturers, to H/M frames and doors for different kinds of hardware installation
I know there’s some information about reinforcements in the Steelcraft Tech Data manual, but I’ve never seen photos. If I find something I’ll definitely post it here.

Can this video be linked on a company website for education?
Sure – no problem!
