The video below is a news report about a fire at a senior living center.  The fire door separating the 20-unit wing where the began from the rest of the building was closed, and the fire did not spread.  However, the door between the unit of fire origin did not close as the residents of that unit escaped, allowing the smoke to pass through the open door and compromise the means of egress corridor.  This door is likely to be a 20-minute fire door, required to close and latch automatically.  The compromised egress route made some of the rescues more difficult, but all escaped safely.

Fire Department Quote:  “There’s a fire door that separates the two compartments of that wing, and it did its job…”
