However, the door between the unit of fire origin did not close as the residents of that unit escaped, allowing the smoke to pass through the open door and compromise the means of egress corridor. This door is likely to be a 20-minute fire door, required to close and latch automatically. The compromised egress route made some of the rescues more difficult, but all escaped safely.
