Last month, I posted a new Decoded article about the listings that are required by the model codes for electrified hardware in certain applications.  In that article, I mentioned the UL Product IQ directory.

I have been asked dozens (hundreds??) of times whether a particular product is listed to a certain UL standard, what the limitations are, and how to find documentation of the listing that can be shared with an AHJ, an architect, etc.

UL has recently updated an article that will be helpful when conducting a search in UL Product IQ.  The article includes an extensive table showing the UL category and title for each of the relevant standards, the hardware that would typically be listed under that category, and helpful notes.

For example, the first standard shown in the table is UL 294 – Standard for Access Control System Units.  The UL category shown in the table is ALVY.  If I’m trying to determine whether the Schlage M490 series electromagnetic locks are listed to UL 294, I go to UL Product IQ, and enter the model number (you can also enter additional info to narrow the search).  The search produces several listings, and the top one on the list is the UL 294 listing – you can tell by the “ALVY” in the document name:

Clicking on the top listing will lead to a page with additional information, including other products in this series that share the listing, and a link to more about the ALVY category:
