Beautiful decorated door2024 has been a year of milestones and accomplishments.  I celebrated 30 years of working with the Allegion brands, and the 15th anniversary of iDigHardware.  Back in 2009, I had no idea what an important resource the site would become, but there are now more than 3,500 published posts on just about every code-related topic addressing door openings.

The iDigHardware community continues to grow – across the world!  Almost 26,000 comments have been published to the site, with many door and hardware professionals, architects, end users, integrators, and code officials sharing their insight.  I’m so grateful for this collaboration, and proud to provide a place where we can store this information for future generations.

We have made great strides in code development, working with the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) to propose changes to the model codes and referenced standards that affect door openings.  The 2024 model codes are now being adopted in some states, and the 2027 codes are in progress – many changes and clarifications have already been approved for this edition.

And there are great things to come in 2025.  You may have heard the rumors about upcoming changes to the Allegion Code Reference Guide.  The 40-page booklet that I first created 20 years ago will be replaced by an online guide.  I can hear some of you starting to panic, but the digital version will be FANTASTIC!  New training will also be created using the online guide as a resource.  I’m really excited about these projects that will benefit the industry and beyond.

I will be taking some time off over the holidays to spend time with my family, and I hope you also take some time to relax and recharge.  Thank you for your support of iDigHardware, for your interest in code-compliance, and for your friendship and willingness to share your experience and expertise.

Happy Holidays!
