Back in August of 2009 (yes – more than 14 years ago!), I was in the middle of Chip Falcon’s Road Trip with my family, and we arrived at our billionth Cracker Barrel Restaurant. As the kids raced for the candy section of the Old Country Store, I was stopped in my tracks by the hardware on the main entrance. Where were the Von Duprin 88 devices and Quiet Doorman panic bar retainers that were the standard for every Cracker Barrel? You can see the 2009 post here.
One of our specwriters contacted me earlier this week, in search of the Quiet Doorman product. Does anyone have a source for this panic bar retainer or something similar? WWYD?

IDN Chicago has them in their book, in the misc. section.
Here is what I was able to find. Look up McMaster-Carr Hardware they show 3 Products for for Push Bar Panics for Cross Bar Retainers.
The Quiet Doorman appears to still be offered by Hawk LLC:

Try Centar Industries in Pinellas Park, FL.
Here is the link to HAWK, LLC in Wisconsin. It looks like they are the manufacturer. https://hawk-llc-851203.square.site
Lori,
Simple question….Are they legal and/or Code Compliant? Thanks
Hi Kevin –
I don’t see a problem with this type of product as long as it’s not used on a fire door.

AHHH, there lies my problem!! One of the two universities I spoke of has had it on a fire door between the stage and back hallway for what looks like decades!! I have to be the mean guy and tell them to remove it from the fire door!!
Thanks for the feedback. Kevin
