In October of 1994, I joined MPS Sales, the manufacturer’s rep agency representing LCN, Von Duprin, and Glynn Johnson. My father didn’t love the idea because at that time MPS had 5 full-time employees, including me. He thought my other option – a door and hardware distributor with about 20 employees – would provide more job security. As it turned out, taking the job with MPS meant that I would become part of a much larger organization – Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies, and now Allegion. Over the years I’ve been able to work in several different roles and eventually create a job that allows me to really make a difference. It’s hard to believe that I’m only a couple of years away from the 30-year mark.
Although it was common in the past for a company’s employees to spend multiple decades with the same employer before retiring with the gold watch, it is not the norm these days. Our next session of Security in 30: Live with Allegion tackles the issue of attracting and retaining talent. If you are in the business of Electronic Access Control, Allegion’s Security in 30 webinar series is for you. While anyone is welcome to attend, these sessions were created primarily for integrators and those in the EAC industry.
