Some of you may remember that I posted about the Ceasefire hinge back in 2014 – the firefighters who created this product even invited me to visit them in NYC (here’s a post about that). Since then, this hinge has gone through testing, design changes, and more testing, and the company is taking pre-orders on their website now.
We all know how important a closed door can be during a fire – if you DON’T know, check out the resources on UL’s CloseBeforeYouDoze site. I’m really excited to see products in development to help ensure that doors will be closed and able to provide protection if a fire occurs.
You can check out the Ceasefire hinge in this news story from CBS Boston Channel 4 (embedded below), or on the company’s website.*
* I am not affiliated with Ceasefire…I just like innovative hardware and people who will go to great lengths to solve a problem – especially when it affects life safety.

Not a whole lot of info on their website. Is there any test report? How does it function, is it a fusible link spring hinge? Would such a thing be allowable as spring hinges are for fire doors?
Flammable chemical storage cabinets (found a lot in K-12 and college science labs) have door holders that look like a pair of thumbcuffs with a fusible link in the middle. In a fire, the cabinet doors close.
These cabinets even have door coordinators to make sure the door without an astragal closes first.
Are these available for sale yet?
