I know for a fact that the smokes fail at a good rate after 8 year period as we test a lot of houses and be sure to change all smokes in your house with same make and model. This is to be sure if one goes off than the others will sound as well. Live long and prosper my friends. Be sure to test with a can of smoke at least once a year with the kids so they learn what they do and what to do if they go off at any time. Good question to ask is do you also have a fire extinguisher and hope the kids can use it too.
